Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna: PM-JAY is a pioneering initiative of Prime Minister Modi to ensure that poor and vulnerable population is provided health cover. This initiative is part of the Government’s vision to ensure that its citizens – especially the poor and vulnerable groups have universal access to good quality hospital services without anyone having to face financial hardship as a consequence of using health services.

Who is Eligible for PM-JAY?

Eligibility is based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data.

Urban Areas – Eligible Categories

  • Ragpickers
  • Domestic workers

PM-JAY covers more than 10 crore poor and vulnerable families across the country, identified as deprived rural families and occupational categories of urban workers’ families as per the latest Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data. A list of eligible families has been shared with the respective state government as well as ANMs/BMO/BDOs of relevant area. Only families whose name is on the list are entitled for the benefits of PM-JAY. Additionally, any family that has an active RSBY card as of 28 February 2018 is covered. There is no capping on family size and age of members, which will ensure that all family members specifically girl child and senior citizens will get coverage.

Are You NFSA Ration Card Holder / 70 Years and Above?


NFSA (National Food Security Act) ration card holders, beneficiaries and citizens aged 70 years or above can create their own Ayushman card through the mobile application (Ayushman App) and by registering at https://beneficiary.nha.gov.in or contact the Asha Ben/Health Worker of your nearest area.

  • Contact all the nearest government and private hospitals, e-gram (VCE), (n) Code Agency (Taluka Health Office, Corporation Ward) centers associated with the scheme.
  • Free treatment in a total of 2658 affiliated (1744 government and 914 private) hospitals under the scheme.
  • Cashless treatment of a total of 2471 procedures prescribed under the scheme.
  • Note: Cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh is provided by the state government under “Ayushman Card”.

How to Apply for Ayushman Card Online?

Follow these steps to check eligibility and download your Ayushman Card:

  1. Visit the official PM-JAY portal
  2. Click on “Am I Eligible”
  3. Enter your mobile number and verify OTP
  4. Check eligibility using ration card / Aadhaar
  5. If eligible, complete e-KYC
  6. Download Ayushman Card or get it printed
