• Devotees must wake up early on MahaShivratri and take a bath.
• After taking the bath, you should wear clean clothes.
• Next, you should take a vow (sankalp) and seek blessings from Lord Shiva so that you do this vrat successfully.
• If you can do so, you should visit the visit the temple.
• Offer bel leaves, Calotropis gigantea flower, Datura flower, etc. to Shivlinga.
• Do aarti of Lord Shiva at the end of your prayers.

महाशिवरात्रि 1 मार्च को सुबह 3 बजकर 16 मिनट से शुरू होकर 2 मार्च को सुबह 10 तक रहेगी.

• पहला प्रहर का मुहूर्त-:1 मार्च शाम 6 बजकर 21 मिनट से रात्रि 9 बजकर 27 मिनट तक है.
• दूसरे प्रहर का मुहूर्त-: 1 मार्च रात्रि 9 बजकर 27 मिनट से 12 बजकर 33 मिनट तक है.
• तीसरे प्रहर का मुहूर्त-: 1 मार्च रात्रि 12 बजकर 33 मिनट से सुबह 3 बजकर 39 मिनट तक है.
• चौथे प्रहर का मुहूर्त-: 2 मार्च सुबह 3 बजकर 39 मिनट से 6 बजकर 45 मिनट तक है.

महाशिवरात्रि पूजा विधि

• महाशिवरात्रि के दिन सबसे पहले शिवलिंग में चन्दन के लेप लगाकर पंचामृत से शिवलिंग को स्नान कराएं.
• दीप और कर्पूर जलाएं.
• पूजा करते समय ‘ऊं नमः शिवाय’ मंत्र का जाप करें.
• शिव को बिल्व पत्र और फूल अर्पित करें.
• शिव पूजा के बाद गोबर के उपलों की अग्नि जलाकर तिल, चावल और घी की मिश्रित आहुति दें.
• होम के बाद किसी भी एक साबुत फल की आहुति दें.
• सामान्यतया लोग सूखे नारियल की आहुति देते हैं.
